Overview

Every year, hundreds of people throng at Dechenphug temple to witness the tshechu. The day falls on the 10th day of the ninth month of the Bhutanese calendar. This tshechu is dedicated to Gayngyen Jakpa Melen, a powerful local deity in Bhutan. A portion of the holy moves incorporate Zhana-nga Cham, Genyen Kunchaam, Shazam Cham ad Ngachaam. Different social projects were performed by the artists of the Royal Academy of Performing Arts. The tshechu was first presented in 2003 under the command of His Majesty The Fourth King. The mask dances performed there will definitely fascinate you and the sound of horns and cymbals will intrigue you but most importantly, the sea of happy faces will make to feel at peace.

Right after breakfast, we will begin our journey towards Paro. En route, we will visit TaChog Lhakhang built by the famous 15th century Buddhist Master known as the Iron Bridge Builder. After lunch at Paro, we will visit the fortress believed to be built on a heap of jewels. The fortress is called Paro Rinpung Dzong. Then we will visit the National Museum to see some of the sacred artifacts, paintings and ancient weaponries. After that, we will head towards Kyichu Lhakhang-one of the oldest temples built in 7th century. In the evening, have a stroll along the peaceful town of Paro. Today, we will be hiking to the world famous Taktsang Monastery which is also known the Tiger’s Nest Monastery. This is one of the holiest sites in the country. Legends have it that the most famous Buddhist master, Guru Padmasambhava, flew riding on the back of a tigress and subdued a dreaded demon at the place where the monastery is nestled. After coming back from Tiger’s Nest, we will visit a home-stay, have a hot-stone bath and witness a cultural show performed by a group of local people. It’s sad for all of us but we Bhutanese believe that ‘we meet to depart’. Today, your trip to Bhutan ends. We will bid farewell to you with the hope that you will come back some other days. We will be there at Paro Airport until you fly back to your country.
